Shoushan Stone 寿山石

 Shoushan Stone (Shòushān Shí in Chinese Pinyin) carving is an art originating from Fujian Province in East China. Shoushan Stone is natural stone from Shoushan Mountain, situated in the northern suburbs of Fuzhou. The shone is quarried from this beautiful Mountain called Shoushan Mountain. The Shoushan Stone have a soft, smooth surface and variegated colours produced by the natural mineral. It is also a kind of Chinese precious gemstone which is classified as "Pyrophyllite". It is likely to be used mainly as "stamp or seal material" in many cases and is ideal material for stone carving.  We know from the sculptured stone pigs found in an ancient tomb from the Southern Dynasties that Shoushan stone carving has been in existence for some l,500 years.
